"I want to hire him, but I just know he's going to leave us for a more progressive opportunity in a year."
- What did he say that gave you that impression?
"Nothing. But at his age, everyone is looking for growth so I'm sure that will happen."
🙄 🙄 🙄Â
Let's stop pretending that we know people better than they know themselves!
Believe it or not, there are plenty of employees in their 20s who prioritize stability and would be perfectly content in a "dead-end" role.
They're not looking for growth, they don't want to lead a team, they don't care about taking over the company.Â
They simply want to have a steady job that pays the bills so that they can enjoy their life outside of work.
And that's not a bad thing, especially if your role fits that mold!
If you have a concern about a candidate's aspirations, ask them! As long as they have thoughtful and logical reasoning to support their motivations, that should give you all the comfort you need to move forward.
